COINTELSHOW: A Patriot Act
by L.M. Bogad

L.M. Bogad Inform yourself! Inform on your neighbor!

Follow Special Agent Christian White on a cheerfully creepy tour of declassified government surveillance documents. White probes the redacted (blacked-out) texts of the FBI's notorious Counterintelligence Programs, searching for the words erased in the name of the Freedom of Information Act.
Learn fun techniques for the infiltration of activist groups, how to earn benefits and a pension as an agent provocateur, and how to, in the words of J. Edgar Hoover, "expose, disrupt, misdirect, discredit or otherwise neutralize" your neighbors!

These are our tax dollars at work, folks; we might as well enjoy it.

COINTELSHOW has been performed by writer/activist L.M. Bogad in theatres, galleries, labor halls, and community centers for the past twelve years.

L.M. Bogad is Associate Professor of Performance Studies at U.C. Davis. He is the author of the books Tactical Performance: Serious Play and Social Movements (Routledge, March 2016) and Electoral Guerrilla Theatre (2005, Routledge 2nd edition March 2016), and the plays COINTELSHOW: A Patriot Act (PM Press, 2011), HAYMARKET, SANTIAGO 9/11, and GGPS: The Guillermo Gómez-Peña Global Positioning System. Bogad is a veteran of the Lincoln Center Director's Laboratory and cofounder of the Clandestine Insurgent Rebel Clown Army. He's performed on many picket lines in roles such as Saint Francis, Ronald McDonald and Sam Walton. Bogad has written and performed with the Yes Men, La Pocha Nostra, Reclaim the Streets and many labor unions and other activist organizations. He has performed, lectured and led art-activist workshops from Finland to Egypt to Argentina, and was "Art and Controversy" Fellow at Carnegie Mellon and "Humanities and Political Conflict" Fellow at Arizona State University. Bogad is the world's best, worst, and only economusician.

This performance, however, will feature Christian Brandjes.

Christian Brandjes is Associate Professor of Theatre at Daemen College, and Director of the Applied Theater Program, the mission of which is to create "citizen artists" who are capable of using drama and performance to create community, enrich global citizenship in which art and performance are inevitable components, and to empower communities by giving them the tools to create their own solutions to identified social problems.

"This play is important for activists and apathetics, clergymen and clerks, artists and engineers...all of us, because we all have good reason to ask 'Who Watches the Watchmen?' As Bogad makes all too clear, it will have to be us." -The Yes Men (Andy Bichlbaum and Mike Bonanno)

"The Left can also laugh, even at the worst of circumstances... Audiences will chuckle along as they engage with this creative teach-in/manifesto on how to challenge, subvert, and educate ourselves about our country's ever-growing 'Patriot Acts.'" -Benjamin Shepard, PhD., author of Queer Political Performance and Protest: Play, Pleasure and Social Movements
