On Monday, October 6th, 2025, the SFMT Youth Theater Project came together with 30 local youth, actors, and directors to present ENOUGH! Plays to End Gun Violence, featuring six powerful new ten-minute plays written by youth selected from the national ENOUGH! playwriting competition.

Since 2022, SFMT has partnered with ENOUGH! to empower teens to address gun violence through original ten‑minute plays that ignite conversation and inspire meaningful change in communities across the country. In spring 2025, ENOUGH! received 127 submissions from across the country. Six bold short plays were selected by a panel, including New York Times-bestselling author Jason Reynolds, Congresswoman Gabby Giffords, and nationally recognized dramatists.
“Sadly, young people are living with the reality of gun violence every day — and too often, they’re left out of the conversation," said YTP Program Director Lisa Hori-Garcia. "What I love about ENOUGH! is that it gives them a real space to speak, to process, and to lead. These plays are bold, emotional, and honest. That’s why YTP is so proud to bring this event back to our studio space.”
“These plays cut straight to the heart of what it means to grow up in America today. They remind us that the voices most impacted by gun violence — young people — are also among the most powerful in driving change.” says Michael Cotey, creator of ENOUGH! and Joaquin Oliver Artistic Producer.

On Monday, October 6th, 2025, we were also joined by our community partners Brady United SF, Project Avary, & Mothers Demand Action, who helped guide our community in taking tangible steps toward gun safety and reform—both locally in the Bay Area and across the nation—while uplifting the voices and work of those impacted by gun violence.

EXCERPTS FROM ENOUGH!
MYA
I was doing what I always did—headphones on, rushing to class—when I noticed people running. The girl in front of me fell and didn’t get up. I ripped off my headphones and heard it—

(Sounds of students yelling, sneakers squeaking on the floor as people run, screams, gunfire. MASKED MAN appears. These sounds build in intensity as MYA speaks.)

I ran to the bathroom, climbed onto a toilet just like in the movies... But I guess he followed me...

DEATH
Attempts. Nothing successful. There are discussions of the issue, carefully worded statements, bipartisan bickering, and useless legislation that gets killed before it’s even given a chance to breathe. Everyone screams that their thoughts and prayers go out to the victims' families, all the while, the next shooter is loading his gun.
-Nobody Cares About Death by Ian Hodges
SCARF and Bullet look at each other. WOMAN steps back and watches from a distance. Slowly, SCARF and BULLET move towards one another, not breaking eye contact. They begin to dance, or move, or connect, or pulsate. It is almost grotesque. They are melding together, becoming one.

KATHERINE
I don’t have a lab partner in Chemistry anymore. Addison used to…
LUCY
You knew her?
KATHERINE
She wasn’t really my friend. Or I guess we were, in the sense that we sat next to each other in class and talked when we weren’t working. We had a lot of classes together, so I think people assumed we were closer than we actually were… because after that day, I got a lot of DMs on Instagram offering condolences. It didn’t feel right.
LUCY
You’re allowed to miss her, you know.
KATHERINE
I know. It’s been… really different without her. Without all of them.
