As part of YTP’s 30th anniversary season, we return to the powerful ENOUGH! initiative for a new staged reading of original short plays written by youth confronting the issue of gun violence. This event reaffirms our decades-long commitment to theater as activism- giving young artists a platform to speak, question, and inspire.

NOW CASTING: Bay Area High School Actors!
Performance Date: Monday, October 6, 2025!
The Youth Theater Project (YTP)- a program of the San Francisco Mime Troupe- is seeking high school-aged youth actors to participate in a staged reading of six short plays as part of ENOUGH! Plays to End Gun Violence, a national youth-led theater movement using the power of storytelling to spark dialogue and inspire change.
No Experience? No Problem.
This is a staged reading, which means:

No memorization required - actors will perform with scripts in hand

All experience levels are welcome - whether this is your first time or your tenth

You'll get guidance and support every step of the way




What You’ll Learn,
As part of this project, first-time actors will:

Learn the fundamentals of acting in a staged reading
-
Practice how to prepare a script for performance
-
Explore vocal delivery, character choices, and script analysis
-
Understand how to work with a director and take direction
-
Build collaboration and ensemble skills
-
Learn how to take and apply feedback in a supportive, professional environment
-
Gain confidence performing in front of a live audience
-
Understand how theater can be a tool for activism and social change
You'll also work with Bay Area professional actors and directors, gaining hands-on insight into real rehearsal processes- all in a safe, welcoming, and youth-centered space.
Time Commitment

Rehearsals Begin: Week of September 22, 2025

Tentative Schedule: 2 rehearsals + 1 tech rehearsal between Sept 22 – Oct 5

Tech Rehearsal: October 4 or 5 (TBD)

Performance: Monday, October 6, 2025
All sessions take place at our studio in the Mission District, San Francisco.

The Youth Theater Project (YTP) invites high school-aged students to explore their ideas, reactions, and calls to action through the art of theater. Our goal is to support participants in using performance as a powerful tool for self-expression and social change- creating bold, original, and meaningful work.
YTP is open to all high school-aged youth, and no prior theater experience is required. If you're passionate about making your voice heard, we want to hear from you!
